RCT’s focus is the research and development of aquaculture technology. Bringing a species into commercial culture is a four-part process.
- Experimentation to determine the correct nutritional and environmental conditions to complete the life cycle in captivity.
- Evaluate large-scale culture feasibility through repeated larval trials.
- Developing a reliable method for larger-scale production.
- Making the method cost-effective so that production becomes economical.
The company’s objective is to develop rearing methods for reef fish species of ecological and economic importance to the aquarium hobby that have never been cultured.
RCT has developed specific culture protocols for the marine
ornamentals listed in this section (follow links below to read more). Aside from the pygmy angelfishes, none of these groups are presently
being produced.
